My husband and I recently had a most intriguing phone conversation with our 8 year old granddaughter. She had been at her church learning new songs and practicing the motions as part of her church VBS ‘Praise Team’.
Greg mentioned to her how proud we were about her becoming a leader. Her immediate, humble response was, “Oh, I’m not the leader…Miss Kat is”. We tried to persuade her that she was indeed taking on the role of a leader. But as an 8 year old, she just didn’t ‘get it’.
I should have shared with her that anyone who steps up to serve others is a leader in ‘my book’.
This planted a blog seed that quickly began to grow.
She reminds me of Bezalel and Oholiab in an earlier installment, ‘Shoot the Ball’ —https://www.bumpsareokay.com/post/shoot-the-ball — They were probably like my granddaughter and did not consider themselves as leaders. But they stepped up, filled a need, and guided others.
Consider this definition of leadership from Wikipedia.com.
A practical skill encompassing the ability of an individual, group, or organization to lead, influence, or guide other individuals, teams, or entire organizations.
Please be reassured, if you are gladly stepping up and serving others, you are influencing and guiding them---you are a leader…no matter your age! Yes, it’s a big responsibility, but it is also so important.
I suggest that you keep an eye on this sweet girl. She is definitely a leader in Grandma’s and Pa-Pi’s eyes.
Keep shooting, sweetheart,
~Grandma Debbie (and Pa-pi Greg)
