No Title until the End!

ree

By: Debbie Christopher - You can guess a good title at the end!

when you’re driving across Norton Rd., and a favorite 90’s song comes on the radio…and it hits you that THAT is exactly what Jen Wilkin* was describing in her Bible Study video we had viewed the night before at Ladies’ Bible Study!

You can imagine the scene as I cranked the radio and emphasized the first four words!

( I’m not telling you the words yet, just like I didn’t share the title—it’s a secret!)

In her *Sermon on the Mount video, Jen Wilkin explained the purpose of the Matthew 7 section of that passage. Jesus’ message  to His disciples was to teach and admonish them to go above and beyond what the Law stated, and/or what society considered acceptable responses to various situations that arose in their lives.

During her lesson, she commented that the phrase I always thought said, ‘Tow the line’ was actually, ‘Toe the line’.  Jesus was admonishing the disciples to not just barely do what was expected, but to go beyond what was expected. Basically, He was telling them to tighten their belts…put on their big boy pants, and….

My journey down Norton Rd. completes the list—-

When the slow, soft orchestra music of the long version prologue started, I knew exactly what was coming (IYKYK)…Then came those four words…”Saddle up your horses…”

(See link below)

Immediately I said to myself, “That’s what Jesus was telling His Disciples—‘Saddle up your horses, guys, we’ve got a trail to blaze’.” A great adventure, indeed!

What a way for Matthew 7 to come to life!

The same message holds true for us as committed followers of Christ. Saddle up our horses, we have a trail to blaze!

Don’t just toe the line…

Post Script story…I had to share this.

One day when Sharon (co-blogger of this site) was in third grade, this song was on the radio as we pulled into the school parking lot. Since we were running late, we couldn’t sit in the car to finish the song. Lo, and behold, it was on again when I started the car to head home…yep, she gave me the most quizzical look and asked how the radio did that!

Here’s the link…and just for the fun of it, I chose Stephen Curtis Chapman’s original music video!
