Honestly, I was not originally planning to post anything this weekend. With all the events (specifically surrounding Charlie Kirk), I was speechless. I had no idea what to write and simply planned to just "not post" today.
God then unexpectedly (to me!) put something on my heart while I was getting ready for church this morning. I knew right then and there that I'd be sure to make time to write this post.
Quite honestly, a week ago I could not have told you Charlie Kirk's wife's name. Writing this blog right now, though, I am in awe of her ability to hold fast to her faith.
Erika's public testimony about her faith in God greatly inspires me!
Quick Backdrop
I took my children to a candlelight vigil on Friday evening. The worship leader led us in the song, Goodness of God. The song heavily covers the goodness and faithfulness of God.
Right after the Vigil, my kids and I rushed to pick up my husband from the airport. I had the radio on, and this song came on the radio!
Here's a big part I want to cover, though...
Sure, it was certainly possible to sing the lyrics about the goodness/faithfulness of God while at the Vigil, and then it was of course "super easy" to sing while driving to pick up my husband from the nearby airport.
What about for Charlie's wife, though??? These words would surely seem impossible to sing or speak, right?!
The Profound Words of Faith!
For Erika, proclaiming the goodness/faithfulness of God would surely be extremely difficult.
Amazingly, though, she stated the following in her recent public address:
"Our world is filled with evil, but our God, you guys, our God is so good. He's so incredibly good." She then goes on to quote Romans 8:28, "And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose."
(The link is below, and I've specified the timeframe in which she spoke those words.)
Life is crazy; this world is full of shock and awe. It is raw and incredibly bumpy. (I even chose this post's picture because the art reminded me of the seemingly hectic nature that life can hold.) At the heart of it all, we must trust God and His goodness.
Given that this blog/website is all about trusting God, even when life gets BUMPY, you can be sure that I was immensely touched by Erika's profound words of faith in the middle of the largest imaginable trial in her life.
So, to Erika, I want to express my thanks for your incredible example of faith for us all!
Salvation Message
I also want to take this opportunity to share how anyone can become a child of God and therefore have this deep-down and otherwise unexplainable hope. The following is taken from my monster truck children's book, but the message is good for any age!
If you are unsure that you are a child of God (some call it being
"saved" or "being a Christian"), here is how to become a child of
God. Let's look at the "ABCs" of salvation.
A: Admit you are a sinner.
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
(Romans 3:23)
A sin is anything you do that goes against what the Bible teaches.
Examples include lying, disobeying, unkindness, not doing your best,
etc. Everyone is guilty of sin. This sin separates humans from God.
B: Believe that Jesus Christ died for your sin.
(He rose from the dead, too, because He is God.)
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while
we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8)
And the angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid;
for I know that you are looking for Jesus who has been
crucified. He is not here, for He has risen, just as He
said... (Matthew 28:5-6a)
He died on a cross as the payment for your sin. Without the
sacrifice of Jesus, you would be stuck in your sin with no hope for
forgiveness.
C: Call to God (in prayer) to save you from your sin.
For everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be
saved (Romans 10:13).
There is nothing you can do to earn salvation. The Bible teaches
salvation is by faith and not through any good works (Ephesians
2:8-9).
Here is a refreshing thing! You do not have to worry if you are
good enough for God. God just wants you to have faith in Him. He
is the way to salvation.
Here is an example prayer to become a child of God:
God, I know I am a sinner and do bad things. I believe
that Jesus died as the payment for my sin. I accept this
as the only way I can be saved. Please come into my life
and save me.
Amen
With your faith placed in Jesus, you are now a child of God.
