My family just returned from a 2-week trip through a few different states. I never intended to post a blog so soon after returning, but I heard a great sermon while on the trip that I just had to share—especially since the sermon was travel-themed!
Pastor Phil talked about travel itineraries and how they are neat because they show particular start and end destinations. There’s much comfort in specific start and end points, right!?
Pastor Phil then emphasized that the Bible shows certain start and end points, too. He took us through parts of Genesis and Revelation. We know the beginning AND end of our story. There’s great comfort in these Biblical facts as a Christian. We know we have a wonderful eternity in store—with the Creator—when all is said and done.
Ahhhhh, the in-between, though!
Pastor Phil spoke about the here and now. In travels, there may be unexpected turbulence, or sitting on the plane by a crying baby, etc.
Spiritually-speaking, we do not know what bumps will come our way. Trials will strike at unexpected times. Regarding the Biblical itinerary, though, Pastor Phil talked through the ways God historically helped humans through their uncertainty. For example, God made covenants and sent prophets in the Old Testament, and the New Testament had apostles. Now we are blessed with the entire Bible. God has kept His promises all along, too! As a result, we can trust God with whatever uncertainties cross our paths during our earth-bound itinerary.
Which promise of God can encourage you when turbulence and bumps strike?
Here’s my very favorite example!
Isaiah 40:28-31
Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might, He increases strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall, but those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles. They shall run and not be weary. They shall walk and not faint.
