In a post a few months ago, I wrote about what my son taught me regarding who has the controls in life. I mentioned in that post how I desired to write about a neat history lesson that deals with this very topic! (Well, I forgot to post anymore on this topic until this point...) =]

Here's a brief portion from my adult book where I share about God's sovereignty.

In one of my children’s Social Studies’ lessons, they were learning about the Pilgrims’ voyage on the Mayflower. Their BJU Press textbook mentions, “On a cold November day, an English ship reached the New World. The Mayflower had been blown and tossed at sea. The sailors planned to land just north of Jamestown. But storms carried the ship much farther north. God had brought the Mayflower to the northeast coast of America.”[1]

They planned to sail and land near Jamestown, but a storm changed things for them. Some may say this was chance or fate. Based on Ecclesiastes, these are inaccurate thoughts.

The history lesson then covered this verse:

“Whatever the LORD pleases He does, In heaven and in earth, In the seas and in all deep places” (Ps. 135:6).

What a testament to God’s sovereignty. He absolutely had the role in where the Pilgrims landed. That storm was no surprise for Him. This same concept still holds true.

May we remember God's sovereign hand as we go through each day. After all, God's got this! =]
