A Lesson from LEGO® Organization??

~By Sharon Czerwien

This past Thanksgiving, I spearheaded (with my wonderful son) a LEGO-organizing campaign. It was long overdue, and the task was never technically completed.

Regardless, my son and I have been quite satisfied with the organizing effort up to this point, and we both love the IKEA shelving that my husband put together.

Let me now get to the “drama” (not real drama, of course, but it sounds more exciting)!…

I spent HOURS on different days sitting on the ground using my brain power to work in tangent with my son and his organizing philosophy—yes, he’s totally different-brained than I am!

That being said, my (not) literal blood, sweat, and tears went into this organizing endeavor.

Well, one day after a big organizing push, I heard my son digging around in his newly-organized bins. Oh my, let me tell ya—I cringed! I started thinking about all the hard work and assuming the worst about what this could possibly mean for the future and our home’s LEGO organization!

I thought the worst about the situation.

I then realized how pathetic my negativity was. He’s a tween boy, and YES, he will probably “mess up” the organization along the way. It certainly won’t change my love or concern for him, though!

Spiritual Application

Not long after my basic moment of panic, I wound up thinking about how much I can blow it and mess up spiritually-speaking. I get grumpy, overwhelmed, impatient, wrongly sarcastic, etc, etc…

Here’s the thing—Jesus LITERALLY spent His blood, sweat, and tears on our behalf, but nowhere in the Bible does it say that Jesus sits around bemoaning how much we’ll mess up spiritually!

Let me re-word parts of my above paragraph starting with “Oh my…”

Oh my, let me tell ya—Jesus doesn’t cringe about our life decisions and possible mess-ups. He doesn’t feel the need to constantly remind us about His hard work on the cross and then assume the worst about our future decisions or our “spiritual” organization!

In fact, let me share some encouraging Bible verses about Jesus’ great mercy—despite our constant mess-ups.

1 John 1:9

If we confess our sins, He [Jesus] is faithful and just to forgive our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Lamentations 3:21-24

This I recall to my mind, therefore I have hope. Through the LORD’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. “The LORD is my portion, says my soul, “Therefore I hope in Him!”

Ephesians 4:32

And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.

Colossians 3:23

Bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.

Psalm 106:1

Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.

I am certainly encouraged by these Bible verses about God’s mercy and forgiveness. I would be erring, though, if I failed to mention that true forgiveness from our spiritual wrongdoings comes by accepting Jesus’ death on the cross as the payment for our sin.

In a previous blog post, I listed the “ABCs” for salvation so that anyone can know how to receive Jesus as their personal Savior.

I’ll leave you with two verses that share the importance of Jesus’ blood payment for our sins.

Ephesians 1:7

In Him [Jesus] we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace.

Colossians 1:14

In whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.

If you are unsure if you are part of God’s spiritual family, please read the end of this linked blog.

For those who are a child of God, may we all be encouraged and thankful that we can never mess up too much. God doesn’t cringe; He offers solid and faithful forgiveness.

Thankful for mercy,

Sharon
